Regulatory Engineering was co-founded by Michael in 2014 as PM Consulting. In 2023, the company was rebranded to Regulatory Engineering to better reflect its dual focus on structural design and its significant role assisting BCAs across New Zealand.

In 2024, Thomas Parker joined as a director, following Michael’s leadership in rebranding the company. Together, they bring over 25 years of combined experience in the field of structural engineering and are committed to delivering excellent design alongside high-quality service to their clients.

  • Michael Sheridan - Director

    Michael Sheridan graduated from Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in 2011 with a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) in Structural Engineering. After starting his career in Ireland, he relocated to New Zealand, where he gained extensive experience in structural and regulatory engineering through various roles, including senior leadership positions.

    In 2014, Michael co-founded PM Consulting Ltd, a structural engineering consultancy. In 2023, the company was rebranded to Regulatory Engineering to better reflect its dual focus on structural design and its substantial role in supporting BCAs across New Zealand.

    Michael’s career highlights include serving as Team Leader Processing and Engineering at Tauranga City Council, where he managed multidisciplinary teams and contributed to regional development. He holds a Master of Management with Distinction and is a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng). Michael also contributes to the profession as a CPEng assessor for Engineering New Zealand.

    With his consulting experience, leadership roles, and regulatory expertise, Michael has been instrumental in positioning Regulatory Engineering as a trusted provider of innovative, high-quality solutions for clients and BCAs alike.

    Thomas graduated from the University of Auckland in 2015 with a Bachelor of Engineering with First Class Honours, specialising in Civil Engineering.

    He began his engineering career in Auckland with WSP (formerly Opus), working on a range of structural projects. In 2019, he relocated to Tauranga, joining a local consultancy to further develop his expertise. He later moved to Tauranga City Council, where he worked as a Senior Structural Engineer, gaining in-depth knowledge of New Zealand’s regulatory system and building consent processes.

    In 2024, Thomas became a director at Regulatory Engineering. He has extensive experience in structural engineering across residential, commercial, and industrial projects. Recognising that the regulatory process can often be complex and challenging, Thomas provides significant value by helping clients navigate these challenges throughout the life of their projects, ensuring a seamless and efficient process.

    Thomas is passionate about delivering innovative, practical, and cost-effective engineering solutions. His ability to balance technical excellence with regulatory expertise has earned him a reputation for building strong, enduring relationships with his clients and project partners.
